McGonagle to coordinate development of new Council of Europe online educational course

Dr. Tarlach McGonagle (IViR) has been invited by the Council of Europe to coordinate an international team of experts tasked with developing an online course on the protection of journalists. The course aims to contribute to human rights education and the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights at the national level.

The course is being developed as part of the Council of Europe’s HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) Programme. Its main audience is legal professionals – judges, prosecutors and lawyers – across the Council of Europe’s 47 Member States. It will also be relevant for law students, journalists and law enforcement officials. McGonagle has previously served as rapporteur of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on protection of journalism and safety of journalists (2014-15).
